She applied at PCPA, also known as the Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts. It is a 2 year program that trains you as a professional actor for a career in theatre.
Chelsea recited two monologues, one comedic and one shakespeare and then a song.
Only Chelsea, the casting agent and an intern are present at the audition. Parents and other students auditioning have to wait outside. Chelsea was soooo strong and confident going in, almost giddy. And then the piano begins to play, just a handful of notes and a student leans over and whispers to me .....defying gravity......from WICKED?? OMG. She is singing THAT??
And we all freeze and listen as her voice can be heard through the wall.....here comes the high note at the end...........and she NAILS it!!!! There is applause from these students we've never met and then smiles and my tears. She bursts through the door smiling from ear to ear. She receives high fives from those waiting and as we leave and turn the corner, she say's "Mom, they told me right there after I finished my song, I have a CALL BACK for March!" She began skipping down that hallway and giggling with delight just like Dorothy on the Yellow Brick Road. And in that moment, as a mom, all you can do is beam and swallow hard.
Up next, the Juilliard audition in San Francisco.
